About the event
Seminars in O&G: Only active members are eligible for CPD accredited certificates.
Pre-eclampsia is a multisystem disorder that typically affects 2%–5% of pregnant women and is one of the leading causes of maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality, especially when the condition is of early onset. Globally, 76 000 women and 500 000 babies die each year from this disorder. Through this webinar, Dr Valerie Vannevel will:
- Raise awareness on the links between pre-eclampsia and poor maternal and perinatal outcomes
- Provide guidance on prediction, risk stratification, monitoring, and management of pre-eclampsia in the antenatal, labour and postnatal stage of pregnancy.
Dr. Vannevel studied medicine at Catholic University Leuven, Belgium and subsequently started obstetrics & gynecology specialization through the Catholic University Leuven. She trained for 4 years in Belgium and spent the last year at Kalafong Hospital, Pretoria, resulting in her graduating and obtaining her MMed in September 2016. She started working for SAMRC in November 2016 as a researcher and as an obstetrician in Kalafong Hospital. Her clinical interests lie in maternal and fetal medicine (ultrasound, recurrent pregnancy loss). Her current research work is on Umbiflow International study and Intrapartum Care. She is focused on improving pregnancy outcomes and improving childbirth for pregnant women in low and middle-income countries.
