About the event

Enteric Fever - Salmonella Typhi

Every year an estimated 11–20 million people develop enteric fever and between 128 000 – 161 000 people die as a result. Enteric fever is a potentially life-threatening infection and includes typhoid fever (caused by the bacterium Salmonella Typhi) and paratyphoid fever. Though South Africa has recorded a decline in reported enteric fevers over the last few decades, we have had recent small localised outbreaks. It is therefore important for healthcare professionals to be more aware of enteric fever, so that cases can be detected and treated appropriately. This webinar will outline the epidemiology, prevention, diagnosis and management of Salmonella Typhi enteric fever.
